Sure, you can appreciate the look of furniture inspired by great design traditions without knowing what those traditions are called, but isn't it more fun to know the perfect name for your favorite sexy sofa style?
Henredon's Acquisitions Upholstery collection was partly inspired by two sofa traditions: the Lawson and the tuxedo.
A Lawson-style sofa is an overstuffed sofa with straight lines, a low back, and arms (either square or rolled) that are lower than the back. The Vogue Short Sofa is an updated example.
A tuxedo is a dressy black suit that looks great on James Bond. Oh, wait, that's the other kind of tuxedo.
A tuxedo sofa has the same straight lines as a Lawson but on a tuxedo the arms and back are the same height (although the cushions might be a bit higher on the back).
This sofa looks like a classic tuxedo because of the straight lines and angled cushions on the back, but it's actually a kind of Lawson-tuxedo hybrid because the arms are lower than the back.
Not a bad way to mix a couple of classic styles with modern comfort and color.
