Walking the floor of the Barbara Barry "Realized for Hendredon" showroom, the pieces that most appealed to me were her chairs. Clearly, Barbara is a woman who understands scale, form and function. Regardless of how "pretty" a piece looked, it was always of such proportion that it could accommodate men or women. They are both handsome and beautiful. That's not always an easy line to straddle, but Barry does so masterfully! For me, this is always of importance.
When furnishings are made this well, having flexibility of use over the lifetime of the piece is of supreme importance. In one home a chair might serve as one of a pair in a conversation area. Later it might be used at a dressing table or desk. It's refreshing to know that her chairs offer such a wide range of uses for years to come. And... it doesn't hurt that they are drop dead gorgeous!
